Så hever vi

(To the tune of “O Tannenbaum”)
Så hever vi, så senker vi,
Så hever vi, så senker vi!
Så sveiver* vi den ene vei,
Så sveiver* vi den andre vei!
Så senker vi, så hever vi,
Og skåler med hverandre!
SKÅ-Å-Å-ÅL!

* Some versions of this song use “dreier” instead of “sveiver”.

Skål

(Raise glass on each “Skål”) SKÅL! – SKÅL! – SKÅL!
(Lower glass on each “Skål”) SKÅL! – SKÅL! – SKÅL!

(Raise glass while calling out “Skål” and then drink) SKÅ-Å-Å-ÅL!

Song for Ladies’ Night at Christmas Time

The Fish Club is gathered at Bay View again
To savor some fish and to sing a refrain.
Welcome to members, to guests young and old.
We lift up our glasses — and join in this skål.
Skål to the cod and to the herring.
The salmon and the pollock and fish balls too.
Skål to the good times we are sharing.
We all enjoy the Fish Club — we certainly do.
Today is the gala — the ladies are here.
The joy of the Fish Club together we’ll share.
The menu this evening is chosen with care.
Our Linie perk-up we’ll have to forswear!
Skål to the cod and to the herring.
The salmon and the pollock and fish balls too.
Skål to the good times we are sharing.
We all enjoy the Fish Club — we certainly do.
We cherish our ladies — we trust that is clear.
And hope to continue this great love affair.
We welcome them warmly — we greet them with cheer.
God Jul to them all and a Happy New Year!
Skål to the cod and to the herring.
The salmon and the pollock and fish balls too.
Skål to the good times we are sharing.
We all enjoy the Fish Club — we certainly do.
Ed Note: We ate at the Bay View when this song was composed, but we eat elsewhere now. When this song was composed, we were allowed to invite ladies to come with us only in February and December, but now we can bring them with us any time of the year.
